Welcome to the new website honouring the memory and legacy of artist David Carlyle Platts.
Following David’s sad passing in June 2024, it has been the ambition of his official estate to preserve his legacy, restore the cottage and barn and show David’s later works, which are as yet unseen by the public.
David left behind an extraordinary body of work spanning oils, pastels, drawings, prints and a lifetime of experimentation across media. Since David’s passing, the official estate has worked to ensure that his contribution to British art is preserved for future generations.
At the heart of this effort has been the restoration of Bush Cottage, David’s long-time home and the adjacent stone barn studio he built along with his partner, Nick. The once private space has undergone renovation by his close friend and fellow artist, Birgitte, who has brought the buildings back to life while maintaining their character which shaped David’s practice.
The new website marks the first sharing the revived spaces and work. For the first time, visitors will be able to glimpse selections from David’s later output, pieces that were never exhibited during his lifetime and have remained unseen until now.
The estate hopes that this website will grow into a resource, celebrating David’s artistic journey while introducing new audiences to his work and offering long-standing followers of his work, a space for reflection and remembrance.
